Teeline is a popular shorthand system widely used in the UK. It has the advantage over some other systems of being based on relatively simple principles, and there are many support available for users.
The wikipedia page devoted to teeline contains a worthwhile bit of information, but there are a host of additional resources available online, many free, and others requiring some expenditure.
The developer of Teeline was, in fact, a teacher of Pitman Shorthand who was trying to find a system that was easier to learn and use.
